On my mind: Why do they do this? *cries*

Hello everyone,

Today's post is part of Rhonda's Friday on My Mind series.

Now normally, I like to write positively, or if not postively, then at least constructively. The way I see it, this blog are like snap shots of my thoughts and I'd hate to look back and see only the negative thoughts.

But today, I thought I'd capture something that bothers me A LOT. Regular readers here know that I live near a lake. And I love it. I love the lifestyle of this place. I love my view and I love coming home and seeing the water and feeling the peacefulness just wash over me.

While my side of the lake is beautiful, only a few kilometres away, this is what's on the other side of my lake:

Yep they're trolleys that have been pushed into the lake. I went for my morning cycle around the lake and took a photo of them. :(

Now the shopping centre is about 2 blocks away from the lake. So people would've had to take the trolley out of the shopping centre, walk it two blocks, THEN somehow push it over the wire barrier and in to the lake. :(

Why?

Why would you go and wilfully pollute something so beautiful? Its not even laziness (where people can't be bothered to put rubbish into the bin). This is wilful pollution.

This lake is home to many types of fish and water birds (I've seen about 6 different species), including these black swans:

(These swans came up to me as soon as I stopped my bike. :) )

This lake gives pleasure to all those who walk, cycle, row, paddle, swim and, or sail in it. All along the lake are parks and free barbecues. There are so many places in the world where facilities like this would NOT be free to just anyone. This lake is a gift.

So why pollute it?

Every now and then, the government comes along and remove all the trolleys out of the lake. This comes at a cost... and its a cost to all of us tax payers.

I wish I can do something to stop this, but I don't even know where to start.

I find it disgusting, when you walk along the lake near the library, just how many trolleys you can see submerged! So sad, it's such a lovely lake, and makes for such a nice walk...

Have you thought about writing to the supermarket/s that own the trolleys and suggest that they consider using trolleys that require coins (the ones that are chained together otherwise) and include numerous photos and describe your disappointment and concern. Perhaps try writing to your local paper also. I don't know, just a thought.

I think that maybe the shoppers are lazy and not taking their trolleys back ..... but the trolleys are being dumped into the lake by aimless youth with nothing better to do than cause havoc for some one else to clean up..... and that is an even sadder shame....

Sometimes it is hard to be positive. All we can do it try.

The trolleys in the lake are quite distressing particularly because they ended up there purposefully. How sad.

Keep blogging and talking to people and spreading your good word. It might not help with the trolleys specifically, but the ripple effect can be so strong. Others will still be inspired to do what they can to leave a beautiful earth.

That is a shame! I don't understand why people have to do things like that.

At up to $1000 a trolley I think the supermarket/s could put up a $300 reward for information leading to prosecution of offender/s. Might have some keen people snapping footage of culprits!! There are trolleys that disable beyond certain distance of the carpark making them undesirable for joy-riders.

I live in another part of the world near a small river. Many shopping carts, as we call them here, find their way into the river along with all kinds of other rubbish. It is not very near a shopping center so it is obviously done on purpose and with some forethought. Very sad, disrespectful and disheartening...

I hate seeing the lake so dirty - I enjoy running & walking around it & it is more than just the trollies that upset me. The town centre side of the Lake is filthy, and then you see the water gate things on the stormwater drains just full of junk too. The mess the lake is in needs to be publicised - just unfortunate that this end of town doesn't seem to get much help from the government to keep it clean....

There was a wheelie bin in there last week. I can't even imagine where that came from, or what possessed someone to push it into the lake.
