Anyway, my mother has been using those plastic snap lock sandwich pouches that you buy from the shops and I have just been re-washing them. Unfortunately, after a couple of washes, those pouches start looking a little grubby. So I decided to do this:
Basically just sewed fabric on the outside. This is what it looks like when you pull the plastic bag out:
Anyway, its been a big hit at my daughter's school and some of her friends have asked for a sandwich bag like this too. So I've made some... hopefully this means that they are less likely to throw away the snap lock bag too.
On a completely different topic, I've decided that I want to be a little bit more involved in social justice work. So now I'm volunteering for Oxfam! I am currently one of the admins for their Three Things page in Facebook. Three Things is about sharing thoughts and ideas on what makes our world tick and how we can make it better. If you have the time, drop by on Facebook (or the MySpace equivalent) and let us (and me) know three things on your mind.

(P.S. for those who are wondering, yes I'm still in paid employment. Maybe one day, I will be able to get into paid social justice work but for now, I've decided to stick to my current job for just a little bit longer.)

Those bags are really cute! How do you get the plastic to stay on the fabric--is it sewn on? And you just turn them inside -out and rinse them?
Hey Becky! yep, its just sewn on and yep, just turn them inside out and rinse. Its very easy care.
I use freezer ziplock bags because the heavier plastic stands up better to repeated washing and re-use.
Absolutely brilliant! thanks for this post. You have a great blog.
