Anyway, I made two ponchos for the kids. I used this tutorial to make it and I just added a hood (again, just using 2 rectangles for it). I told my kids to choose a theme for their poncho.
My daughter grabbed a small soft toy she had of a mermaid and insisted that, that was what she wanted to wear. So her mermaid went on, and I decided to make purple bubbles all around the mermaid to hide the fact that I attempted to do arm holes before realising that the poncho was too small for arm holes. Oh well, the purple bubbles (which are actually a sparkly type of purple) seem to have done the job of hiding that mistake!

My son chose the Teletubbies. So I made a Dipsy poncho for him. The Dipsy antennae I filled using fabric bits and threads (I've been saving the threads I cut off during other sewing for things like this). The yellow "TV" for Dipsy also doubles as a pocket.

.... I quite like how it turned out until my DH said, "oh he's a green condom!" Erm... you're right, I think he does look like one. But then that makes Dipsy completely weird.....well weirder than what he already is....

Okay, different topic. I have to say, I am very very proud of my Mum! My mum recently decided to throw out her silk scarves but then rather than just throwing them out, she went to a dressmaker and got her to make little tops for my daughter!!
Here are two of them!

I love the little frill at the bottom and what a fantastic idea for unwanted silk scarves! And isn't my mum cool for getting into the reconstructed clothing spirit of things!!

Love what your mum did with the scarves - she rocks!
I love sewing fleece too, I'm looking forward to colder weather so I have an excuse to cut out more kids clothes (which I will never have time to sew, but isn't it the thought that counts?)
Hey, can you please post an article on how you get time to do all this sewing when you've got small children? I just cannot sew with 3 kids under 4 in the house with me!
Your mum is awesome!
And I think your son looks like a poncho-ed teletubby. LOL!
Typical DH - one track mind.
Oooh, I love them all!! Yep, your Mum rocks :-) I so definitely making some of those ponchos for my kids too, even I could cope with those - I can see the atttraction of fleece :-)
Good job on the pochos, and the scarf tops are lovely!! Yay for your mom!
Wow, the tops are gorgeous. And as for the ponchos - no hemming and forgiving of mistakes? You almost make me think I could make some for my kids!
BTW, Hi. I just came over from - well, from an email actually. Someone sent me your URL when I was talking about our "not buying anything new" oath. And $67 for a week of food? I am hooked!
